Tinta do Anfora 2005 from Alentejo

Post by Brian C. »

I don't get to try wines from Alentejo very often. I found this one at Sam's and thought I'd give it a try. It's a blend of 50% Aragonez (Tempranillo), 30% Touriga Nacional, 10% Trincadeira, 5% Alfrocheiro, and 5% Cab Sauv. I have usually found wines from Alentejo to be a bit too dry for me, but this one wasn't quite like the others. It does have 14% ABV, which is a bit much for me, but it still tasted fine. It really had a lot going on, a lot more than I thought it would. Thankfully it wasn't one of those that finally opened up after the third day. It had a nice tannic quality to it. Not too overpowering, but enough to let me know it was there.

Does anyone else have any impressions of Alentejo reds? Has anyone tried this one before?
