1988 Kopke Colheita Port

Tasted at Port & Fran's Chocolates tasting at Fine Wines & Cigars in Redmond Town Center.
1988 Kopke Colheita
A rather light tawny color with surprisingly little red left for a 21-year old Colheita (read: none). Nuts and sweet vanilla on the nose to go along with some alcohol and oak. Semi-tart apricot in the mouth, decent heat, and a latent richness that gives weight to the mouth feel. 90 pts.
This Port was paired with Fran's Milk Chocolate Hazelnut Diamond, and was the only pairing that I really didn't like. I thought that the milk chocolate was too sweet for the Port in this case, and I felt that the hazelnut in the chocolate overpowered the much more subtle nuttiness in the Port. The whole was definitely less than the sum of the parts, because I liked both the Port and the chocolate separately.
