1995 Delaforce Quinta da Corte Vintage Port

Post by Kurt Wieneke »

1st night: Decanted through cheesecloth, dark red color with no bricking, medium amount of sediment, complex blackberry, fruitcake, and spice aromas from the decanter, later hints of anise and molasses on the nose, palate is mainly plums with a nice minerally streak in the middle and great balancing acidity, finish is very long and delicate with polished tannins. 2nd night: Sharp tannnins protude on the finish, rough around the edges, maybe in sort of a weird shutdown mode tonight. 4th night: much like first night again, exotic and spicy, ripe, voluptuous and silky mouthfeel, complex granite/cement note at midpalate. A very fine port and one of better 95's I've tasted. 93 pts

Decanted through cheesecloth, little sediment, began consuming within 1 hour on 3-21-12.

All fruit from the get-go. This is lacking some structure, so the rich, jammy red and black fruits are a bit flabby, but is still tasty. This is drinking very similarly on day 2 and 3, still lacking some structure in both tannin and acidity, still pretty one dimensional, but still enjoyable as an easy weeknight drinker. Drink up soon, IMHO. 88 pts.

Opened another one of these last night with some friends who are just starting to get into port. Very complex and long. An impressive SQVP that is IMO one of the better '95's. I will again give it 93 pts.
