2003 Pintas Vintage Port

Post by Frederick Blais »

Wine & Soul, Pintas Vintage Port 2003

Over the week-end, I did drink this on 2 days. Right after uncorking and for the remaining of the first evening, this Port was stable with not much evolution. Dark color, but not as opaque as some 2003 are at this stage, nose of licorise, strawberries, dark cherries, roses. On the palate, sweet fruit, dry backbone of tannins, lots of them without being obstrusive giving a dryer texture in mid palate like Dow's can provide, tannins are well balance and chewy, field fruits flavours dominate until the finish end short with licorice flavours.

On the 2nd day, color got darker with the oxydation process, both on the nose and palate, the Port got new flavours profile of black berries and plums flavours. Tannins are still much present on mid palate.

Overall a well crafted Vintage Port but I this stage I'm feeling it is missing some depth and concentration to be one to consider for the long run. It was my only bottled brought back from Portugal, if I had another one, I'd open it in between 2016-2025

16/20 Might get an extra 0.5-1 points with time in bottle.
