2004 Krohn's Quinta do Retiro Novo Vintage Port

Upon opening the wine exhibited a color that was slightly darker than garnet with a much darker core. The nose was much more floral than fruity. Rose blossoms and wisteria dominated with a slight note of almond in the background. On the palate I detected pecans, brown sugar and maple. The spirit seemed to be fully integrated and overall this was a very enjoyable glass of port. The style is on the elegant side, not a blockbuster, but very smooth. 87 points.

Fun to read your review Marc. I hope you got a chance to see my 2007 review of this same SQVP. A big step up!

Marc
From your TN and descriptors it sounds fairly advanced for only a 2004 VP. Did that seem the case to you?

It did seem to exhibit characteristics of a somewhat older VP. The structure (in particular the tannins) did not have the power that one would expect from a five year old VP. I'm looking forward to trying the 2007....

Good to know.

I'm looking forward to trying the 2007 as well, it's one I've not yet had.
