The WineLibrary.com's companion food site, GourmetLibrary.com, looks like they carry the real thing from the picture... unfortunately it always says "Item Currently Unavailable"... what a tease!

Just had an amazing Serra da Estrela cheese when we were in Portugal. One of the ripes and most tender ones I've ever seen. We brought one home from Azeitonaria do Porto, if it's just as good as the Azeitoão we bought there, we're in for a treat.

Glad you stopped in and had a chance to check out the shop Ronald. Did you get to meet Miguel? I love that place.

Yes I met him. He was very passionate about his cheeses, so that was great. The selection of ports is all right as well, but I didn't see anything I wanted to buy.

There´s no better cheese than the real Serra da Estrela with a young VP.

I know a secret spot for those that want to purchase it, in the next visit to Porto.

I had some Serra da Estrela purchased at
Zabar's in NYC this weekend. The rind labeling indicated it was the real thing, and it even had the laser engraved DOC sticker. It was quite tasty, but not as gooey as I've been led to believe the stuff in Portugal is. The cost was a little over $30/lb. I don't see it listed on their web site, and I don't know if they regularly stock it, but they had more on Sunday.
