1967 Cockburn’s

Stood up 24 hours ahead of time, decanted for 4 hours. Light strawberry reds at the start, with air it is noticeably darker in the decanter. At first, soft herb, though aeration uncovers dried figs. Medium bodied, a silky restrained seam of dry dates. After an hour or two, the palate is smoother, shows a longer length and a dash of alcohol. Showing signs of middle age, there is no hurry to drink this solidly satisfying Port. 90/100.

This is a very nice Port. The spirit is typically the only negative. Glad yours was not overly hot, Nicos. Your TN could easily have passed for the identical VP I had last night, the 1983 Niepoort.

Roy, I think the 1967 Cockburn's is slightly out of balance on the alcohol but not too much for me on the bottles I have drunk. I have not had the pleasure of trying the 1983 Niepoort.

On the '67 Cockburn's I think it just goes bottle by bottle. I used to find the same thing on the 1966 Sandeman and also the 1967 Vargellas too.

It is interesting that you mention the 1966 Sandeman as I am opening a bottle tomorrow for a serious offline for guests from the USA and a few friends. I will post a TN, and I plan to open a 1966 German Auslese Riesling as well - my brace of bottles from 1966, the year England won the World Cup in football (US translation = soccer).
