This can be bought at Dominick's (owned by Safeway) for about $17, if you use your preferred customer card, otherwise it's about $24. The price is certainly within reason. Given that Safeway is likely stocking it nationwide, it's probably going to be pretty easy to find wherever there is a Safeway owned store.

This is filtered. It is grapey, as I noticed someone had described the 2001 LBV. It's very easy to drink, and it has a very pleasant taste. I would not put it in the same league as the Taylor 2003 LBV, though I am guessing I won't be able to get that for $17 anywhere around here. The price point really does make this a lot more attractive. At $24, I would be indifferent.

Brian,

Thanks for the note, I've never been a major fan of Dow's LBV's for the reason you mention. It typically isn't in the same league as other LBV's, especially in it's price range.

Had this last night on the spur ofthe moment. Paid $23 (have paid $19 before). Decanted for 1.5 hours (would have normally done 4 as I've had this before and this seems the best minimum decant time). Clear color, a little grapey (again, that decanting time helps this). Fruity on the nose-balckberries and other fruits. Finish is long and had a little bite. Very easy to drink. I'd give it a 15 out 20; agree it would be more attractive a couple of dollars less per bottle than $23.

I've had the Dows 2004 and 2001 LBVs (which I actually liked better than the 2003) and after the notes on the Taylors LBV 2003 it seems like I need to do a taste-off, side by side.

Side by side tasting are great as they really reveal a wines good or bad sides. Oh and I expect TN's when you do this  [cheers.gif]
