1991 Morgan Vintage Port

The first bottle of Morgan 1991 of the year.

Deep red colour, still opaque at the centre. Ripe blackcurrants exploded out of the bottle as this was being decanted and were all over the nose in the glass, with just a little bit of dustiness. Medium bodied in the mouth, full of blackcurrant fruit and dark chocolate tannins. Fabulous structure to this wine and such a pleasure to sip and experience the depth of flavour it offers. Big aftertaste swamps the mouth and leaves a long and dominating length that starts as dark chocolate and sour cherry, but slowly fades to just the dark chocolate. A big port and one of the best showings to date. Wonderful!

92/100. Drunk 3 Feb 2010 after 24 hours in the decanter.

As much as all of you in the UK have drank of this I'm surprised any is left. It was a steal and I wish I could have bought a bunch to ship out here. Thanks.

It must have been quite a day, when the 1991 Morgan outscores a 1970 Dow. [foilhat.gif]

We all agreed that it wsn't a typical bottle of Dow 1970 - not one that showed the wine at its best.

Yes, I had a feeling that was possibly the case.
