The 1970 Royal Oporto Quinta Das Carvalhas was a light pinkish red color in the glass. After decanting for three hours it was thin and simple in the mouth with tastes of candy apple, pear, and sugary cherry. It was a fragile port that would not benefit from further aging. Overall it had a 20 year tawny taste with a sugary maple finish that was moderately enjoyable.
