NV Graham Six Grapes Reserve Ruby Port

Post by Sebastian T »

Opened this bottle over a week ago, but have had it gassed with co2 most of that time.

I didn't really like this to much from the beginning, my palate was pretty tired and I was drinking a very different style of port side by side - a 10 year old tawny, however from the moment I put my nose into the glass today it seemed more promising.

Eye: Dark red.
Nose: Inviting fruits, and a welcoming spirit.
Palate: Rather nice and fresh, not as horribly jammy as when first opened . Not a full bodied vp or even lbv, but still some weight to it. Nice spirit and tannins, well-balanced. It has lots of fruit, but not much of a complexity. I like the finish but ends a bit dry.
A good drinker for relaxing afternoons.

I have alwyas liked the 6 grape. Its quality varies because of the varied juice that goes into it. WHen Graham does not declare the quality goes up because, I think , the good stuff goes into 6 grape, but it is always a good value and never bad.

I'll be sure to try it again some day, maybe making a new TN for it as well.

This is one of my favorite Reserve Rubies and normally is a winner every time. But we all have different palates and we each look for different things in the same type of products. I'm glad you liked this later on after it had been open and I'd encourage you to give it another try when you get the chance.

And FWIW, as Richard alluded to, unlike most other houses Graham's uses their second best quality grapes to make Six Grapes (which is unfiltered and unfined).
