1977 Dow Vintage Port -- (fifth)

Post by Jim R. »

On opening: deep red with orange/mahogany edge, clean mulberry and toast nose, strong currant flavors with well integrated alcohol, some elegance, some tannins left;

+ 2 hours above plus some schist and juniper notes, cherry flavors, great balance

+ 5 hours above plus great acid structure

+ 8 hours some wood overtones showing, some corkiness showing

+ 12 hours wonderful, expansive mulberry, currant, mocha and toast nose, excellent elegant currant flavors clear of cork taint with good acidity, the alcohol is only present enough to know you are drinking Port but not at all intrusive, tannins enough to cellar another 5 to 10 years but I am sure it will get any better, cellared under good conditions and I only wish I had more. Cost $ 20 in 1981 and cellared since then.
