Re: TN: Rare Wine Company Imperial Malmsey

Glad I stumbled upon this thread, I just bought this bottle today to be opened in Mid December. It was completely on recommendation by RWC for someone who is not well versed in Madeira. Sounds like I'm in for a serious treat. Would you guys recommend a decant or just letting it air out open in bottl...

Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?

Just grabbed a 1991 Dow's for this next Friday. Just bought one because I wanted to see how the storage conditions are from this retailer. Got it for $65.

Re: A retailer you trust

For the longest time my office was on 48th and Broadway. That scene of Times Square was what I saw everyday during lunch. It's pretty cool being in that kind of crowd. But nothing beats coming out of a kitchen after a Saturday night service when the adrenalin is still pumping and finding yourself su...

Re: Digital SLR cameras: Canon or Nikon?

Roy, Do do a large amount of food photography for the editorial work i do with snooth and the advertising for my work. I can tell you that my Nikon D90 has been reliable for years and takes amazing macro pics. It's also durable and Nikon (the one time I had an issue with the battery) was great about...

Re: A retailer you trust

Glenn, no it's not them, this place is literally named "Grapes: The Wine Company". They are located in White Plains NY. Good place, really nice owner. back stock is temp controlled and the sales floor is always cool.

Re: A retailer you trust

Thanks, I'm familiar with a few of these places. Looks like The Chicago Wine Co has some good stuff. I just sourced the 1977 Taylor on pre-order from Grapes: The wine Company here in NY. The owner sourced this partially for himself so I'm sure he looked for impeccable provenance. The price on his we...

A retailer you trust

I've spent years forming relationships with wine retailers but I've learned that very few of the dealers that I've established these relationships with, carry much Port. Or more importantly, have a good selection of Vintage Port that has impeccable provenance. I know of Sherry Lehmann here in NYC. T...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Hey Eric (homeboy), Glendale eh? I was born and raised not too far from you, in Bayside. The only time I used to go to Glendale, seemed to be for funerals. [shok.gif] Also when I was young my parents took my brother and me to see the gravesites of Harry Houdini, Mae West and as I was a baseball lov...

Re: What's safe for the beginner?

Thanks guys for really taking the time to answer all of these questions. Derek T, thanks for the sound advise. I need to taste more of these so that when the reviews hit, I'll be more able to relate to them and make that decision. I guess the one good thing is that there is a good amount of aged vin...

What's safe for the beginner?

Looking to put together a case of 2007 Vintage Port (probably three different producers and four of each bottle.) that I will put into storage and forget about. I had a few concerns. When I first got into wine I made the mistake of buying into the hype created more by producers advertising and marke...

Re: Storage

I know this was mentioned much earlier in the post but I must second the idea of professional storage in a big way, especially with Vintage Port. I buy a lot of Barolo and upon delivery of each vintage I bring it to my storage facility. 1 The main reason, and I'm sure this is something a vintage Por...

Re: Lots of new faces ... please introduce yourself

Hey everyone, I've been heavily into wine collecting for a number of years now but have only recently gotten into Port. I'm very glad that I've seen the light as I've been slowly experiencing these amazing wines. Looking at some older vintages now to try and also for some young vintage ports to lay ...
