The 1994 Gould Campbell is a good wine, not great but certainly solid. I can not place a value judgement on this one though. The price seems reasonable, but only in terms of what I have seen coming from the Canadian members of the board and other prices they've mentioned.

Alan,

The Niepoort importer, Martine's is in your backyard in CA. That would be my suggestion. Call them and ask where they have this at retail.

To me it is not right to expect a Colheita of less than 15 years old to have depth, complexity and be a serious wine yet. Drink the old ones if that is what you are looking for. Burmester is in the midst of a major importer change, here in the USA and that is why right now there is nothing new in th...

Monique,

I am hoping that in 2006, that between Port and Madeira trips, we might make 6 - 10 tours available. How long in advance would you feel you'd need to know specific dates in order to be comfortable signing up?

We have not considered shorter trips at this point, but I'll never say never.

Matt, In the USA, Burmester is in the midst of a significant change of importers and that is why I was not even able to obtain samples of their 2003 VP. In about a month, I will be able to provide you with all the details of how to go about buying their wines in the USA. Please remind me around the ...

1998 Quinta de Ventozelo LBV Port -- (400th FTLOP post)

Quinta de Ventozelo LBV 1998 - before visiting the Quinta in 2003, I had the opportunity to taste a couple of Ventozelo Ports at an IVDP tasting a year earlier. I was impressed with this undiscovered producer and looked forward to trying more. The LBV from 1998 is a very dark magenta color and deliv...

The last time I had the Graham 1985 was in the middle of 2004 and it was showing brilliantly. Having had the '85 Fonseca within two months of that experience, my long term preference for the Graham's changed as the Fonseca took the lead by a nose. The Graham's however, is a beautiful and balanced wi...

Hi Matt, First of all, welcome to FTLOP. I hope you will find this a friendly place to come visit and share your experiences. A Proud Port Papa

I could not resist the urge to inquire of Stewart, the technological wizard behind the scenes at FTLOP, how we're doing after the first ten days. I was very pleased by all the stats he was able to show me but there was one that stood above all the rest. So far, in the first ten days ... we have had ...

2003 VP Offering

This is for folks from the USA. Winexchange is tried and true and their pre-release prices are normally as good as any retailer in the country. I bought my first pre-release Port from them with the 1991 vintage. 800 76-winex Croft @ $58 Delaforce @ $47 Dow @ $63 Fonseca @ $75 Graham @ $75 Niepoort @...

Thanks Steve. This and the 1992 LBV by Warre's were both really enjoyable LBVs and in the Unfiltered style, which is rare for a British producer. Of course there are other exceptions like Smith Woodhouse too.

All of this is speculation based on past history and some basic economic indicators. It will be very interesting to see what really happens and look back at the forecasting that has taken place here and elsewhere.

An excellent point Jay and an even better reason to bring the venerable Maderia along as your desert island wine. Even if the cork does raise out a bit, no harm and no foul. It really matters not.

Andy,

Check for pricing and avaiability on winesearcher.com as I have seen more than a $10 differential per bottle, in the price range offered at retail.
