Andy, that's interesting thanks. I don't think I would have even known about that one...although I'm not running out to buy it now or anything. :) Of the various California port-style wines, I happen to like a few from Paso Robles...somehow, they seem refreshing, and better to drink young than try t...

The Dow's Crusted Port was quite inexpensive here lately (the 2000 bottling maybe? can't recall). My parents like ruby ports, so I brought a couple of bottles with me to Thanksgiving dinner, and they absolutely loved them. There is a slightly funny (not unappealing...just different) taste or afterta...

Great. I bought a few, too. It's delicious now, and I'm looking forward to trying more over the next few years.

This is my first order from them. They are a bunch of internet guys (not wine guys) who run the company. I'll let you know how my experience goes. But I just thought I'd let people know. :D

Andy, good point. As far as I know it is the Portal. The Sku number is: 1296287. Not sure if that helps. :D

I don't see the Quinto do Portal 2003 VP for sale that often, at least in the US. Currently, though, they have it at Wine Chateau (http://www.winechateau.com), and the prices are amazing (at least to me). Reg. 64.39 On Sale $48.79 30% discount on 6 bottles for $269.34 At $44/bottle, I picked up one ...

Ah, yes. Decanting it would have helped...although it's pretty tasty any way you cut it. With four dessert wines already on the menu, I hadn't planned on opening it...the bottle was just a token thanks to Roy for inviting me to the dinner. I'm quite glad he decided to open it, as the dessert flight ...

1987 Quinta de Vargellas

It looks like Knightsbridge Wine in Illinois (knightsbridgewine.com) has the 1987 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port Quinta de Vargellas in stock for $59.96 a bottle. I don't know if this is a good price or not, but I've been keeping an eye out for the wine, and it has been hard to find this vintage stock...

Thanks for the Ridge, Roy! (Hi Andy!)

Roy, on his current visit to Southern California, invited me to a Ridge Zinfandel dinner that he and Gregg Greenbaum had been planning since early in the year. Needless to say, wonderful company (got to meet Andy V, too, and I expect we will be opening many a bottle of port together in the future!) ...

Yeah, the '74 really is a nice Colheita. And the price is so attractive I'm tempted to keep buying and start drinking.

My pleasure. This is one of my first posts, so I hope listing this sort of thing is appropriate...I don't know enough about pricing to be sure these are bargains, but I know I like the ports in question and the prices seemed at least pretty good. :)

Bargain Alert: Noval Colheita and Noval Nacional

I just picked up a couple of bottles of 75 Noval Nacional for $169 each at http://www.calvertwoodley.com . They also have the 96 Nacional for $349, which is the cheapest I've noticed it, although too rich for my blood. Also bought the 74 Noval Colheita for $66 or so per bottle (when ordering ...

Thanks, Roy. I have a few bottles of most, so I might try some in the younger end of the range you suggest while saving some for the full peak. I really appreciate it. :) That also gives me a few bottles to stick at the front of the rack to pull out this year and next...which is always nice, too. Th...

Thanks, everyone. It's really appreciated. :) Looking at your list, I'm puzzled by the inclusion of Offley '82 and '89 vintage ports - they did not declare those years, but they may have made LBV's. I'm sure you are correct about that...I simply cut and pasted that list from the fortified/dessert re...

Thanks, Roy! If you would indulge me, then, I'm going to list my all of ports and maybe people can weigh in on anything they've had experience with...then I can set the drinking windows manually (not that I live and die by CT, but it's nice to look at a certain year and pull some bottles from the ba...
