I think Zachy's is pretty proud of their retail offerings. I like their auctions, but nothing in that sale e-mail impressed me for price. Free shipping is nice, but the free version of wine-searcher shows 14 US listings for 2011 Cockburn under $70, with the cheapest at $63. I can ship for less than $17/bottle.

Yeah, I felt the same way. Zachy's sale prices are still high relative to winesearcher.com, though not egregiously so.

I've known Zachy's since the late 1980's and their pricing has never been their shining knight in armor. However, they do a very good job of buying wines of excellent provenance. I knew their Port buyer for years, but unfortunately he departed in 2012. They used to use my scores on some of their Ports, but that goes back several years. I think they are a very solid firm, but pricing is fair but not going to twist your arm to be buying. Some great sales there over the years and if you look for bargains, (like i need to say that here) you can do very well from time to time). They've been around since the mid-1940s and the family has continued a brilliant succession plan.

I knew the prices were not too enticing...I tend post anything relevant and let you decide....plus Zachy's has a few large format bottlings.

My response wasn't mean to stop you, just more information. The more info the better all around.
Re: Zachy's having a Sale on Spain & Portugal Wines
Zachys is having a 20% off port sale 1 day only (today) which brings a few of their prices lowest on winesearcherpro. I live in New York and have family in Scarsdale so I am lucky (unlucky) enough to shop in the store. I am also VERY lucky to have a connection to Zachy's so I often see prices similar to the sale they are having today so I consider myself VERY lucky and fortunate and don't want to make any waves or rock the boat. I can tell you Scarsdale has some of the highest property takes in the state and in the county and their store is huge, their staff is huge and their selection is huge. Zachys has always stood by whatever they sold and their customer service is impeccable.
A little story Don (owner of Zachys told me a little while back). He was having an issue with NYS liquor folks as he was advertising in the NEW YORK times (scarsdale is in New York for the record). Since the NYTimes is read by people in New Jersey and Connecticut as well as NY they were going after him for advertising to out of state people which was against the rules. He has a million of these types of stories (read headaches) each of which costs him a pretty penny I am sure.
