I had a 2011 Portal LBV yesterday and loved it.

1980 Ferreira on deck. Very unique case as all the bottles were packaged, shipped and stored upright. Over the years some bottles were perfect, others gone to tawny. Been 5-6 years since I had a bottle from the case. Going to use the tongs.

Re: What have you opened this week?
I've previously come across hinged lid cases of Ferreira '70 with upright bottles that were sold by Harrods. After 45 years of vertical storage the contents are pretty much beyond redemption - a sorry sight..Very unique case as all the bottles were packaged, shipped and stored upright.

2005 Croft Quinta da Roeda. Very nice, especially for the price.

Yes, very nice. I bought a few bottles for around $33 years ago. I wish I had bought more.Mike J. W. wrote:2005 Croft Quinta da Roeda. Very nice, especially for the price.

Summer has hit Denmark early this year with great weather throughout the month of May. That calls for white port.

Decanted for home quaffing. Never a superstar vintage this and my fourth encounter with this wine over the past decade.
Aside from being decidedly rough on the aftertaste, this wine is finding some composure, and is showing well against previous encounters from the same case.
Fits with a paradoxical narrative that I've been surmising for a while now - that weak VPs tend to gain more when they broach '40 than do the young superstars..

I have four more left. I recently bought them for $37 a bottle (not including shipping). I'll give them some more time in my cellar, but theyEric Menchen wrote:Yes, very nice. Warre '91
Is this the weakest Warre VP of the last half century? This encounter was no exception. Drinkable, but light and awkward with a hint of the earthiness that marks out several '91s. Mindful of what the Warre '75 was like fifteen years ago, it might come round, but I wouldn't rush to stock up on this one. Score: 1-2

Re: What have you opened this week?
I find most of the 1991 SFE VP's below what they normally are. Sometimes you win the year gamble and sometimes you don't. They ruled the 80's and lost the '91/'92 fight, LOL.Tom Archer wrote:Warre '91

Q. da Revolta 2011 LBV
Despite the rather unfortunate name, this is sound and solid juice, albeit very youthful still. No evidence of filtration, and a proper driven cork.
Very good value:

Re: What have you opened this week?
three basic Whites last weekend:
Fonseca Sirocco extra dry
Quevedo
Warre's Fine White
what does the word "Fine" mean on Ports? i know for Marsala it means aged one year, which isn't very good quality. i can only think of having seen "Fine" on bottom tier Ports.

Re: What have you opened this week?
'Fine' is a word used by winemakers when they've got nothing else good to say about their product..

Re: What have you opened this week?
And fine doesn't have any legal meaning, unlike "Reserve" which does at least throw you into a different bin in the IVDP regulations.
