Can I ask you what you base that 5-8 years on? I am not questioning your judgement and I hope your prognostication is correct Glenn, but I'm interested to hear how you came up with that range. Thanks in advance.

Just simply that it's been in bottle for 7 years now, and while it did seem like it was possibly just starting to show some signs of change due to bottle age, they're very minor and so another 7 years (or, 5-8) will probably be just fine.

It could, of course, drop off a cliff. But I don't expect anything that already has this much oxidation built into it to do that.

2003 Fonseca VP from a half-bottle. Decanted about 4 hours. It's good, but very young and clearly needs more time, which is no surprise for a Fonseca.

Over the weekend we had a 1983 Taylor LBV Double Magnum (3l), 1977 Taylor VP, and 1985 Ramos Pinto VP.

A lot of port to drink.


The LBV tasted more like an older colheita than VP. A friend thought it was like a 1950's VP.

Ferreira Duque de Bragança 20 Year Old Tawny. Not opened this week, I actually opened this up on September 22 and then forgot I had it. I found half the bottle still sitting around the other day and tried it. Over a month later it was still singing! I finished it up over the next few days. I'm surprised how long this held up.

Hahaha! I have 1/5th of a bottle of Niepoort 20 I got a few weeks ago, but we went out of town and found it this morning in the fridge. Will report back--my guess is it will be just fine.

I had been down a little on this vintage recently, but this bottle has turned the course in a positive way. Took a couple of days to get there.
