Mateus Rose

First time trying it out. Nice refreshment, not v fruity. A little bubbly when opening it, which was nice. Better drank shortly after opening, as the bubbliness quickly fades.

This is one of those drinks that I think most people had written off long ago, along with Lancers (ahhh, I can still see the brown and green ceramic(?) bottles in my parent's basement). I think I might look into these just to get a new view of them. Thanks for the note (and bringing back a childhood memory).

It is pretty cheap. Paid $7 for my bottle. V comparable to Casal Garcia, think may prefer the Mateus Rose, as it isn't as acidic.

I've had the Mateus sparkling wine in Portugal and I have to admit I didn't have high hopes prior to drinking it. But I admit my view of it based on label bias was changed afterwards. It was a nice easy drinking sparkler and one I've have again if I was looking for a nice QPR bubbly.

Brisa Do Mar Vinho Verde Rose. Nothing too special, but for less than $10 (was it 7 or 8?), it was worth the price and went well with our meal of Greek salad topped with grilled chicken.

2000 Fojo

Still quite young, and seemed rather modern in style, though not enough for me to find that a detriment.

Thanks for the comments, I was planning on opening one soon, have only 2 bottles left. I guess I'll wait. Unfortunately Fojo vineyards is almost abandonned at the moment :(

Frederick, what's the story with Quinta do Fojo? My understanding was that Jorge Borges made wines from Fojo and Quinta da Manoella under the Fojo label. But a few years ago the properties were split with Jorges taking Quinta da Manoella and his sister taking Quinta do Fojo. Of course I may have it all wrong!

We purchased a bottle of Quinta do Crasto's 2010 Old Vines Reserva at the Flat Iron Grill in Issaquah last night. It needed an hour to open up, but was fantastic!

That is good to hear, I take a chance and buy wines often just to see if I will like it or not.

I opened a 2001 Chryseia last night. Pretty cool wine. Would've liked to see what it would taste like with another decade. Decadent and rich like a Zinfandel, but I'd prefer it to have more tannin or be a little more rustic. Quite a finesse wine with a lovely nose.

2002 Niepoort Charme, which once again rocked my world. One of the best vintages of this particular bottling, that is for sure. :scholar:

Roy - How long of a decant do you recommend for the 2002 Charme?
