Eric,

A couple of questions...

What's the age on the H&H Reserva sercial?

Also, was there a limit on how many Borges 40 years you could buy? It seems, given its reputation, one would really stock up.

Nope, no limit - just €120 per bottle. I passed, although later I regretted it and tried to go back and buy some, but they were closed for lunch!
I just wasn't loving it when I tasted it, but decided that my palate must have been off. However, the 1979 Sercial was off the charts good!

The H&H Reserva Sercial is one of the heavenly quartet. They are selling them again, which makes one wonder how many are left at the lodge. Unknown age other than it was considered old when the company was founded in the mid-19th century.
Surprised that you could get an unlimited amount of the Borges 40 yo. They only bottled 1000.

1200 euros. The WS Boal was 2000. Since we were with the Madeirathon, we also got a 10% discount.

Reidar,

I bought 2 1946M and 1 1946B, all Barbeito, from Patrick Grubb in 2006. I bought 4 more boal from Rare Wine Company in 2009/10.

None of the bottles have bottling dates. Do you have any idea when Barbeito bottled these?

I haven't seen any new bottles in retail for a while. I wonder if Barbeito have any more.

Gary, I bought the Barbeito M + B from Ricardo , if I recall right( ? ) about 12 years ago. Looked in my log and the Barbeito M was bottled Oct. 1997. No note on the Barbeito B.

My two Borges V were bottled 1996, bought them from Isabel at Borges about 12 years ago..

Gary,
I know that Barbeito keeps track of their selo numbers and bottling dates. If you email them the selo numbers (including the letter) they can tell you the month and year of bottling.

Eric,

Thanks. I'll jump on that. I wasn't aware that anyone kept track.

Got a nice surprise. I applied for the VAT refund at H&H for the Riserva Sercial but didn't think it would happen. Got a refund on my credit card for 148 euros.
Now, what else to buy? :D
