Today I opened Royal Oporto 20-year-old tawny. I think it's rather good for its price, and simple enough for a beginner. Beautiful color, balanced taste.

sounds like a great time for sure. When you get a chance, do post your impressions or notes on them. Would love to read what you though of them.
Will do! I'll try to get around to type my impressions up somewhere this week (I did take some - rather short I must admit- notes of course) :yumyum:

Cálem Quinta da Foz 1987 VP.

Probably not the best known house and or Quinta. Nevertheless (in my opinion) an utterly enjoyable VP. Nice and mature at this point. Lovely fruit (a bit jammy), good balance in terms of acidity and sweetness. Tannins and alcohol nicely integrated. :yumyum: :yumyum:

I have some bottles left of this and will be happily consuming one bottle of this every year until they're all gone. I don't think that these will improve any furhter, but there's no need to rush in finishing them off in my opinion. :twocents: :D

Had a glass at The Yeatman nearly a year ago and thoroughly enjoyed it! It was still a fruit bomb though. Yours showing nicely?

This was a 1/2 bottle and still young. I really love this VP.

Now it's time for the Burmester 20-year-old tawny. It's sweeter than most Dows. When compared to the Royal Oporto I've drank over the last few days, the Burmester is, of course, much more complex.

Portal colheita 2000. It has a distinct spicy feel I haven't noticed in others.

I'm going with the theory that the best defense is a good offense.

- Kopke 2011 VP (opened on Friday, have a glass or two left in the decanter, shall have to take these in tonight, curious to discover what the extra time has done with it)
- Kopke over 40 YO Tawny (bottled in 1980). This particular one (with that much time in bottle) keeps amazing me. Have just 3 of them left (from 9 in total) and all were, for my taste, magnificent. This one does have a driven cork in it, not a t-stopper. The cork is quite short however (about 3,4 cm long).
