That's an odd year for Ferreira. How was it?
It was nice. I noticed that the palate was a bit lighter than I typically experience with Ferreira and it was also a touch more evolved than I would have expected for a '82. All in all, I did enjoy its smooth, elegant and refined characteristics, although this is one to drink in the near-term. Its at its peak and I don't see any upside to giving it additional cellar time.

Actually Ferreira exceeds in "odd" years and years that others failed to make excellent vintages. I can think of 1830 off the top of my head.
Then again I was only half kidding, that was some bottle ... but it was tasted w/ Bartholomew Broadbent in SF in 1997. Interesting to say the least.
But in reality, I look at 1960, 1975 and 1980 as more current years that were good only for a handful of producers. Ferreira excelled in all 3.

Just decanted 1963 Warre's VP for tonight. Initial glass is amazing. Really pure fruit and so balanced. Heat is restrained... Granted this is only 30 seconds out of the bottle. Expected to serve 8-9 hours. Will pour back into the bottle around 5:00 PM. Been a while since I have had this vintage.

1970 Fonseca, great as usual.
1998 Fonseca Guimarearns, better than the last time I had it, which had been underwhelming.
