Why not one of the very fine 1944 Colheitas from her birth year?
Excellent question Roy!
And I would have for sure, if I had any.

But since the only place that I could get a colheita 1944 (Kopke) that's:
A - not too far away from where I am (134 km) and
B - has it in stock

has a pricetag on it of € 560

I decided to not go for that option just this time

2007 Taylor LBV and a Grahams Six Grapes---for a gents weekend mixed among everyone's favorite stuff (scotch, gin, bourbon, beer, etc.) . All casual drinking.

The Taylor showed nicely--an easy drinker.

I have a love/loath with GSG---seems to me the batches vary and there was a poor set a couple years ago. This bottle and the last I had of this both were very tasty for a Ruby Reserve and seems to be back in form.

Tonight Round 1 of a 10-Year Tawny Tasting:

Croft
Ferreira
Kopke
Quinta do Portal
Sandeman
Smith Woodhouse
Ramos Pinto Quinta da Ervamoira

Although I may swap one out for Niepoort

Any predictions on which two will show best?

I'd put the Croft in last place, followed by Portal; the rest is a toss up depending on personal preference...

Uhh, for me probably the Sandeman and Ferreira (though very different in style). Of course, if you add in Niepoort that is also a favorite 10 year of mine.

Ferreira and Ramos Pinto.

I'm partial to Ferreira. Both the wines above are unusual because they are a single vineyard tawny. (The Ferreira is from Quinta do Porto)

2000 Krohn's Colheita which ended up being corked. Hate when that happens. :(

Ramos-Pinto (1 Pinto) old Tawny. Maby +40 years old.

A little on the sweet side, and not the longest aftertaste, But what Can You expect. The Tawny was an ordinary Tawny, not made to store, But to drink.

A bottle of Graham's 1952 colheita (bottled 2012). This really is a very fine port, not something you can sit and drink all night but a fabulous port to sip and savour.
