Reporting back... everyone enjoyed the wine. I enjoyed it too, though it failed to meet my (high) expectations. Posted the tasting note on it...

Next time will look to have something either significantly older or a real youngster.

The 3 bottles were the right number, ended up w about half a bottle leftover :)

They are pretty cool, v functional. See the pic below, you can pour out of the bottle and back in wo any hassle.

You can get it on Amazon. I ordered one a couple of weeks ago as a gift for a friend...

Interesting, though it doesn't seem useful for Vintage Port since it would agitate the sediment. And that's putting it mildly.

This is still my favorite decanter, though when I bought mine it was only $30 and came with a stainless steel funnel/filter. It's heavy and sturdy and looks really nice.

With VP, when initially decanting the bottle I use a funnel and cheesecloth to filter out the sediment into the decanter. No difference bw this decanter and any other.

Once that is done and the bottle washed, it is just easier to pour it back into the bottle, or to give it a few quick aerations w it.

Interesting.

I should mention I have about a $20-25 limit on decanters. No reason to pay more for something that does the same job regardless of price. I can't believe people pay $150-200 for a decanter. I paid $25 for a Rediel at Target and it does the same exact job as the $150 model.

I don't bother with the funnel when pouring into decanter; just push the cheesecloth slightly into decanter and pour away. Funnel is not doing anything more for me...
