Tawny Port - does 10 years actually indicate age?

I love over 40 year old. I think the best have the extreme nuttiness, caramel, and toffee flavors but still have freshness as well. I believe that good acidity is what gives freshness to wines these old, and the best have enough to keep them fresh.
Madeira has different flavors and mouthfeel for me, so they are not quite interchangable. [1974_eating_popcorn.gif]

I do feel sorry for Jon D. He asked a simple question and got two pages of discussion on the relative merits of the different categories of TWIA and the way in which we would like the IVDP to change their rules and the challenges that might create in complying with US consumer law!

Sorry Jon. We'll try to be less enthusiastic next time.

Anyway, ruby ports are better than tawny ports. Tawny port is only ruby port that someone lost in the cellar and didn't manage to bottle on time...cellar dregs, if you like. :stir:
