I chose the same as Andy and Alex before reading the thread.

In the past 3 years I have met and enjoyed port with some great new friends and hope to continue to do so for many years to come. Whilst I do love tasting great port it is always better when in the company of others who appreciate it for what it is.

For that reason, I don't know if it will be ever possible to beat the group we had for the 2006 Port Harvest Tour. We wound up with everyone coming from the Forum and it was more like an offline with a great group of friends for the weeks, since 99% of the group knew each other really well from here.

Of coure that takes nothing away from the 2007 Tour as we also had quite a few FTLOPers there as well and the highlight for me was the group's dynamic which was pretty great. 8--)

That is certainly a hard act to follow. Most of that group are still regularly in touch and enjoying offlines around the globe. I think that group was a one-off occurence but that does not detract from the experience anyone would get in going on one of these trips. I'm sure some of the class of 07 would agree

Alex,

Do you have a website that is a "one-stop shop" for things that happened in a particular year? I sometimes incorporate these things into fun drinking and bottle presentations.

Thanks,

Scott

I think this is a great time of year to revisit this particular thread, as we have lots of new people posting nowadays, but also maybe people's opinions have changed a bit?!?!

Perhaps my thoughts have a changed a little, but my main enjoyment fro Port comes from sharing my love of the wine with others who feel the same way about it. We had an offline last week and I wore the shirt I got at Vesuvio in 2006 when I trod grapes for the first time. That brought back some great memories.

And I still love to link the year of the vintage with the events in the year. The 1858 we opened was from the year in which Charles Darwin presented his paper on Natural Selection - that's pretty stunning. Maybe I'll write up 1858 as a "guess the year" guest article but leave this snippet out of the clues...

This is an interesting thing to think about. Maybe it is about learning to know (and buy) the wines you like the most. And trying some new things occasionally. Colheitas (and vintages, for those who are into them) are interesting because they are unique.
