Above all, give the little guys a fair shot - there are some really good small time vintage
ports waiting to be discovered out there..
A big +1

I remember having the 1970 Royal Oporto Carvalhas blind that you brought to a tasting some years ago. It stole the show, it was so good. I'm sure if it was served sighted, given RO's normal track record, it wouldn't have fared so well.

+2 for me, too. The majority of my ports are tasted blind and there's usually a surprise in any event I've been to---up and down. For my Top 3 I went of of the best average/mean/typical score but I certainly have some gaps on brands...such as I just had my first Vesuvio last month. Still---its curious to me how many repeats there are on brands here.
Any Port in a storm!

I think that Sandeman gets a bad rap during some of their "bad times" but I've not found that many weaknesses when tasting these VPs sighted or blind. They may not be world class great Ports, but I can't remember the last time I had any Sandeman and came away thinking, "wow, that really sucked!"
Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com
