What/where is the best meal you've ever had in Portugal?

Andy the restaurant you are thinking about on the Porto side of the river was Presuntisco. I believe it is now closed. At its best it was fantastic. But like many flash in the pan restaurants which can be great for a year or two, this lacked the staying power and certainly went down hill after the initial chef left. It was never the same. I had 5 great meals there and followed by 2 failures.

Hi Glenn!Glenn E. wrote:Since my original post in this topic I have had the opportunity to try a couple of other restaurants that people recommended, and they're all great!
Restaurante Bacalhoeiro in Vila Nova de Gaia
I just went back to this place and it still one of my favorites in Porto. I recomend to ask for the 'Bacalhau' with corn 'costra', but the whole pice not half. Is much better

Yes, thanks Roy that was it. I was really sad when it wasn't the same high quality anymore. I really loved it back in 2006. Sorry to hear it closed, but I guess that was inevidable.Roy Hersh wrote:Andy the restaurant you are thinking about on the Porto side of the river was Presuntisco. I believe it is now closed. For something a little more casual/rustic, I loved a restaurant in Lisbon called "Bonjardim" in the Baixa district. The locals call it the "Rei dos Frangos" ("King of Chickens"), due to it's specialty, "Frango Assado", which is spit-roasted chicken.
I had it on one of their outdoor tables with their home-fries and rice... Pretty simple, yet spectacular at the same time (and cheap).

The big challenge is to find a top notch eatery that is open on a Sunday night!
Any suggestions (No "frango" jokes)?
