Very tough indeed.

For some serious value:

ruby: Smith Woodhouse Unfitered LBV 1995

tawny: Niepoort Senior Tawny.

Both are about 16 euro ($22,50) in the Netherlands.

Working a case deal of 2000 Quinta do Vale Dona Maria which should price out to $30 a bottle. [beg.gif]

I bought some 1997 at that same price, but since I haven't tried any yet, I can't really say whether it is best or not.

Please try a bottle and report back! I have another case of the 2000 and tried one bottle a few years ago. I am no expert at newer vintages, so any opinion I had/have can only go so far.

Like in the other thread about spending one's allowance on port purchases; I thought the price was good and is suppose to be decent at a minimum quality, so why not?

Very rarily do I drink a vintage port (assuming no bottle flaws) that I do not like. I have a couple bottles of '85 Hoopers that I probably shouldn't have bought; that's it... Then again, I just tried one bottle, so the verdict on that is still out.

Scott,
Your note above reminds me that I need to break open a 2000 Kopke LBV. I think for me the best under $30 right now that I have had is the 2000 Gould Campbell LBV. I also have my eye on purchasing a 2000 Churchill's LBV. All these 2000 late bottlings seem like a no-brainer to me.
