One dozen each of Sem-fim (translation: wihtout end) from the Valegre stable, Tinto 2011 and Branco 2012 at €2.29 a bottle, or about $1-70.

Re: What Douro wine have you purchased this week...
I have a simple system of buying a small quantity of wines that are on half-price offer if I have not previously tried them and then trying them immediately. I also take several days to finish a bottle. I am incined towards having three or more bottles open at any one time. It is a very unscientific way of "ageing" them in my rather limited palate sense of tasting wine. I am a wine drinker, not a wine taster. I bought half a dozen of each last week, have so far had two of each, and decided they were worth cellaring, so, back in Castelo Branco yesterday, I bought a dozen of each. I have found in my ten years here that I prefer most Douros to have at least that age on them, and preferably more. Even Dão whites seem better after a dozen or more years. Unfortunately you will not get tasting notes from me - I either like a wine or I do not. Basically it comes down to the grape variety. I particularly like Baga and Tinta Roriz (not in the same wine) and do not like the Alentejo wines based on Alicante Bouschet. From elsewhere I do not like Italian varieties, but I do like Cabernet Sauvignon.

Re: What Douro wine have you purchased this week...
It is rather unfair that I contribute too literally to the forum on such headings as this since I buy some Douro wine every week, and drink Portuguese wines, including Port every day of the year, but sometimes it may be appropriate to comment.
The week after I last posted I saw a new retail outlet in Castelo Branco that, from the signage I assumed was part of Sogrape. On entering there was a nice display of a wide range of wines, including bottles of table wines up to 20 years old. I have been here long enough to know that 20 years is quite reasonable for many wines. I bought single bottles for trial. Four table wines between 1995 and 2002 and two non vintage Ports - Dalva Ruby and Tawny. All four corks of the table wines broke when trying to extract them. I salvaged what I could and none of them were worthy of paying for. This is an extremely rare occurrence. I had never heard of Dalva, and will not be trying their Ports again. I am pleased to report that I was mistaken and the outlet has nothing to do with Sogrape.
On Thursday (this is Saturday) I bought a bottle of Isaura non-vintage on half price offer. I have made it last 3 nights and I am happy never to drink it again. It was very poor quality, more akin to a home-made wine than a commercial one.
It grieves me when I buy such poor quality wines - and within reason, price is not the determining factor of quality in the country of origin. Not only have I wasted money, but I have missed the opportunity to enjoy a good wine, and there are only so many bottles in a lifetime. Fortunately, we do not know how many.

I found a bottle of 2010 Quinta do Crasto Old Vines Reserva for $17 today, at a liquor store that you'd never guess would carry it.
