Wish you all were on the east coast.

1977 Warres. Marijke and I loved this at the first FTLOP gala, so I bought a case from Christie's, beautiful bottles. Running low, I picked up a case from HDH, not so beautiful. This was an ugly bottle, lots of SOS and crud under the capsule. But it must not have been too bad. Marijke, I, and a visiting friend polished it off in under two hours I think.

Opened a 2009 Quarles Harris LBV Port last nice. Was a nice ready to drink LBV. Want to taste it over another night or two first, then I'll post a note on it. So far worth buying at the price Trader Joe's is selling it for.

That would be fun.....

2006 Gilbert's LBV. Never heard of this producer before. 500ml Bottle. OK but not impressive at all.

Gilbert's is a lower tier in the Sogevinous lineup. It's been a long time since I've had anything from Gilbert's and I wasn't impressed when I did. IIRC, it originally was designed to be marketed more toward bars and clubs and used to make cocktails and the such. I think they even made a VP or two, but it's been a long time since I've seen anything from this lineup.

I think the Gilbert's labeling, while nice, is indicative of the target market.

Last week Glenn and Kari made it to London for dinner. To welcome them I opened a bottle of Cask 33 (I love the hand blown bottle) and a bottle of Graham 1983.

I've just opened a bottle of Dow 1991. It had he most amazing quality cork - hardly any penetration and looking like it has been freshly recorked (which it hadn't).
