Little experiment yesterday:
Clubland White reserve port from the 40's/50's
Taste was still ok nothing special, little thin and tasted some water. There was no seal from IVDP, so we were doubting if it was legit port. Nice experience

I have standing, to be opened tomorrow, a 1977 & 1980 & 1994 Smith Woodhouse VP plus a 2000 SW LBV. Just a few gents over for some port and pot luck supper, which with this crew means meat, maybe clams some fine cheeses and various bourbons, scotch whiskeys later.

After some weeks with some "for certain nice bottles", this weekend I opend two older ordinary Tawnies.
One bottle of Meteor (Taylor), and a speciel Reserve from Churchill's. The latter to be the best.
With these older bottles, there is no certainty of pleasure drinkng. And sometimes (1 out of 15), I have to pour the juice in the cink...

How was the 1997?
The '97 was OK, not a great glass but certainly with some good promise for the future.
Earlier this week I opened a bottle of Dalva 1970 - as usual, this port was spoiled by a little bit of VA.

Bummer. I don't recall ever having had the Crasto '85 and was looking forward to your note on it.

I've had it once before at the Quinta and it was really good. So I was really bummed this bottle was off.

1968 Krohn Colheita (bottled 2008)
2009 Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo Late Bottled Vintage Port (bottle #7566)
The Krohn was a steal from Premier Cru during their sales. I picked up the LBV from WTSO. There's no bottling date on the label, just the bottle number.
I think that probably wins the award for longest Port name!

Opend an old Tawny from Warre on friday, But it was not a pleasant experience....
On friday, it had a taste of old socks...and bandaids!
But today on sonday, allmost 48 hours of breathing time....The Port is soft and smooth.

Always amazing how a wine can sometimes come around. That's a pretty nifty looking bottle Allen, thanks for the picture.
