Yes, taste and post a TN for the rest of us :)
Will do. Is decanting needed for a young LBV?
For this filtered LBV, probably not. It will get some air once you open the bottle and that should be fine.

Yes! I habitually buy 2 or 3 bottles to drink one now and after i can wait 20, 30 or more years by knowing how it tastes when it was Young. I'm more "patient" after.

As a group purchase a few of us in the UK bought one of the three case lots of Fonseca 1963 that was auctioned at Bonhams today. Not cheap, but a great story to the bottles.

Nice haul mate. Really nice selections.

Do please tell how the 1985 GC and the two 1994 turns out. I have been eye balling those bottles myself.

Very nice. With the impending doom of GC I thought it prudent to add a few bottles to the cellar as well. The auction prices are still very reasonable even if buyers premiums are not.

Prices including fees and taxes
2 1977 GC $110 (K&L)
3 1983 GC $47 (winebid)
6 1985 GC $41 (winebid)

I am about done with Winebid too, but for some lesser known items you can still get a good deal, otherwise not.

What has your experience been with Winebid?

I've bought 80% of my VPs through them. I do live 20 minutes from their Chicago warehouse so I save greatly on shipping.

I've purchased close to 48 bottles. Several have been corked or shown less than hoped for. I am now much more selective and rarely bid as I've got my cellar about where I want it. Key for me was that I'm about 30 minutes from their Napa storage facility. If I had to pay shipping I wouldn't bid.

Had a very poor experience where I won a lot they had not described fully (a common issue for them), was charged, and then they decided a few days after the fact they weren't going to send it to me and return it to the seller. When I called to discuss it with the customer service rep I'd been emailing with, I was routed to their CEO who berated me with some seriously foul language and taunted me to sue. Haven't bid since, probably never will.

1x 1997 Quinta do Vesuvio VP
2x 1980 Warres VP
1x 1996 Sao Pedro Das Aguias VP
1x 2000 Sao Pedro Das Aguias VP
1x 1974 Warres LBV

The first three bottles I've tasted before and love. The last three are such oddities I feel I have to give them a try.

Stombled over some nice VPs from Dow's.
The 1964er is a special Danish engarrafado.

I have to mix my Niepoorts once in a while...
