Dear FTLOP friends,

This is difficult to explain. I have spent the past two months:

* contacting the importer for the USA
* having the IVDP approached
* finding out about the manufacturer
* learning about the Amazon.com's ability to fulfill orders of the glass
e. All of the above and much more

Without making this a very long posting, I can say with confidence that there will be no IVDP glassware in the USA anytime soon. To make a long story short, unless there is someone on this BB in the USA that has already mastered the art of internet order fulfillment or knows of a company that can make a large purchase, warehouse the glasses and then ship ... I just don't see these glasses winding up in the USA before the 2nd half of 2007.

IF anyone here has been involved in the business of internet order fulfillment, please contact me by email and not in this particular thread.

I can promise you that I have done my best and have not given up and had no idea about the types of obstacles that were in play. My sincere appologies for not making this happen, but please know that it was not for lack of effort.

How different are these glasses to the ISO tasting glasses?

How different are these IVDP glasses to the ISO tasting glasses? They look very similar, but I have never held one of the IVDP model.

I have never tasted port out of the IVDP glass but I can tell you that the set of glasses that Roy brings to tastings in a wooden box with an image of the Garantia label etched on the side of the glass look extremely cool 8)

I need some of these - regardless of whether or not the port tastes better :P

IVDP Glasses ... Should we try again?

Post by Michael C. »

I hate to resurrect an old thread, but this one caught my eye. I just spent the last month trying to connect with all of the port houses I recently visited in VNG to see if they could ship me some of the IVDP-designed port glasses. As you have found, this has been an exercise in futility.

Someone mentioned in an earlier post that there was a possibility of these glasses showing up in the US during the latter part of '07. Since we are now in that half of the year, where should we be looking? Did you get a heads-up on where they may become available for sale?

It's really too bad we can't get a special FTLOP order placed for the house-branded glasses. I left Oporto with a nice set of branded glasses (Taylors, Croft, Kopke, Barros, and a few others) ... the sad thing is that there are only 2 left ... all the rest broke and now I spend my days calling Portugal to find replacements. ;)

Any help getting this thread going again so we can track down the glasses and purchase them in the US would be much appreciated. :)

Thanks!

Hi Michael,

Welcome to the For The Love Of Port website. I hope you will find this informative and friendly.

As to the IVDP glasses:
This story is as dead as a door nail. The USA importer gave up trying to get them in from Portugal and the producer is less than "user friendly." I spent months chasing my tail on this one and unfortunately, for now at least, it is a dead issue. The politics behind the scens would make for a "B" movie!

Sorry about that.

Roy

Oh well... It didn't hurt to ask. :) Your earlier mention of late '07 had me holding out hope, but I guess this just means I'll have to travel to Porto and pick up a few right from the source. ;)

Thanks for the quick response.
