The label was in very bad condition, so I couldn't make out the vintage from the label. The cork mentioned 1977 VP though.
It seems (but I can't be sure) that this port has been bottled in 1980. The label only shows a visible '9' followed by what I make out to be part of an '8'. So this I figure means bottled in 1980 (it could of course also mean bottled in 1979 with a number or a letter following the '9').
Anyone had this VP before and/or can help me out to determine the year of bottling this one (I have one other bottle of this VP, but the label is in thesame poor condition)??

I think IVDP regulations allow up to 3 years? I had a quick look in Broadbent's magnum opus as it was on my desk next to me, and although there is nothing on da Silva, he does note that Smith Woodhouse 1977 was also bottled in 1980 - so your instincts re: bottling date may well be correct.
C. da Silva also appears, i believe, as "Presidential" or "Dalva" depending on where/when it was shipped originally.

Between 18 and 30 months, as I recall. I've had both versions of the 1967 Taylor Vargellas - one bottled in 1969 and the other bottled in 1970.

A bottle of Warre 1974 LBV, bottled in 1978. The bottle shows why it is worth leaving top quality LBV to mature for 35-40 years!

77 Taylor. This bottle, while showing a pale center was still quite primary and youthful.

Tonight was big. First a really good tasting at Quinta do Tedo, a Quinta that deserves more recognition than what it gets. A solid line up of Ports across the board for sure. More on Tedo later...
Then a really good dinner and an killer line up of 1934 and 1947 Quinta do Noval Vintage Ports and a 1945 Croft Vintage Port. WOW is all I can say

Though i'm sure there's a forum rule about this type of bragging whilst other people are stuck in the office....If not, there should be!

Pocas 2007 and Dow 1980.
The Pocas was very fruitdominated, the Dow very dry with lots of cherryflavours. Still very young too.
