A half bottle of 1997 Fonseca VP. I decanted it last night, and tasted it two hours later--not bad. Now, 24 hours later, it has definitely improved.

I also opened a bottle of Graham 1985 as my contribution to the same blind tasting yesterday...and having both bottles open at the same time, with neither showing obvious fault, was a real lesson in how bottle variation can be very striking when bottles are from two different sources (even when both sources are of immaculate provenance...)

Surprisingly , it was simply excellent! considering it was the worst looking bottle from the bunch (quite some seepage it seemed) it was amazingly tasty. I opened it last Friday (28th Oct), on the day they arrived. At first it was very nice, but had quite a lot of heat (too much) from the alcohol.
On Saturday this bottle was finished off after a dinnerparty, where I also brought the B&I 1970 VP, and at that time the heat was very much reduced / integrated, and what was left was a fantastic Tawny, with a lot of honey, nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts) in both nose and taste, and a finish of over a minute! :winebath:

I'll try and put together a tn on this one too.

A bottle of Offley Boa Vista 1972 - not great, but better than some 1975s I've had.

1991 Dona Matilde Colheita. Wonderfully intense vanilla when first opened, but that's faded into the background since. Still great stuff!

In Mexico at a resort they had Ferreira Tawny at the bar, so I sampled a glass. I stuck with mezcal and tropical beverages after that, and recommended my friends to do the same.

and last night was a bottle of Cockburns Special Reserve. SO much better than it was several years ago. The Symington's have turned this back into a fantastic Ruby Reserve.
