Tasting dinner for my oldest son (41yo) and his five best friends. My goal was to give them a broad overview of Port varieties and to turn them into Port lovers for life.
Croft Pink Port with prosecco as a welcome drink (I know, I know.... ).
Niepoort LBV 2015 versus Niepoort Vintage 2000.
Graham Vintage 1985 versus Fonseca Vintage 1985.
Some preferred Graham as it was more approachable, but we all agreed that the darker coloured Fonseca still has a great future ahead.
Alves de Sousa Vintage 2020 was a surprisingly good companion for the grilled Iberico Secreto (special Spanish pork meat).
Château d'Yquem 2003 for the dessert of grilled pineapple and crème brûlée.
Thereafter cheese, nuts and dark chocolate with
Andresen Colheita 1968 (b. 2023) versus Andresen 1993 (b.2023).
S. Leonardo 20yo (b. 2021) versus S. Leonardo 40yo (b. 2020). Some preferred the 20yo over the 40yo.
Kopke 50yo white (b. 2023), a great white port, but in hindsight misplaced in this line up.
The S. Leonardo 40yo was the overall winner.
Mission accomplished
