6 bottles of Croft 2005 LBV at the ridiculous price of £5.25 per bottle.
6 bottles of Quarles Harris 1994 vintage port for £12.38 per bottle.

Both courtesy of a wine promotion from one of our leading supermarkets.

Can you have your supermarkets talk to our supermarkets about doing this type of promotion [beg.gif]

As you've requested, I spoke to our supermarkets. They have said that (a) there is only enough port for the UK supermarkets; (b) the port is too old for US consumers and (c) you can always order on line if you know a friendly UK resident who would be willing to take delivery and eventually organise a courier to take the bottles to LCB for onward shipment to California.

Alex,

What if we were willing to wait for the nubile 2006 LBVs; would that help? :D

I have a half bottle of 2010 port that might be suitable for the US consumer's well known passion for young port. Should I send it over?

Roy,

Little did I know that the biggest cost of the Port Harvest Tour wasn't the tour itself (which is actually quite reasonable as it's an absolutely fantastic trip!), but rather all the vintage ports, colheitas and madeiras we now want to try. We're having a great time, thanks for turning us on to these. The rest of my cellar is feeling a bit ignored, though :-) .

In honor of the visit of Joao Nicolau d'Almeida to "For the Love of Port" this past week I bought a bottle of the Ramos Pinto 10 year old tawny Port, from Quinta da Evramoira, today. $44. Actually, I have been looking for this Port -- as well as the 20 year old tawny Port from Quinta do Bom Retiro -- in my local wine shop for some time and only just found it today. I am relatively new to Port and yet more new to tawny Ports (I've sampled one tawny Port -- a Taylor's 20 year old tawny). I'll drink a bottle of Taylor's 20 year old Tawny I have on hand and then try to follow that promptly -- say within about a week -- with the Ramos Pinto 10 year old tawny Port to make a comparison.

2x 1995 Taylor Quinta de Vargellas
2x 1994 Smith Woodhouse LBV
The latter I thought was VP, but it was a bad listing at thewinestop.com. They've fixed that listing, but they have another that is still erroneous on their website. I should have realized it was too good to be true.

I much prefer the older wines - I think we might be able to make a deal.

A bottle of Fonseca 1966 - it was looking lonely on it's dusty shelf in a wine merchant and just needed to be taken somewhere it would be loved and appreciated.

Sandy,

And here I thought you had lurked here for awhile before coming on the recent Port Harvest Tour, no? I would have expected that you'd have learned one of the dynamics of :ftlop: is its incredibly subtle pressure to entice readers to procure some of the amazing deals discussed here. 8--) Looked at another way; it is our privilege to help enable you.

Don't go buying up any Madeira yet. I am working on a great offer for subscribers which will offer a few Madeiras + Ports etc. This will all become apparent soon, so save some cash until the buyer's op is announced in a few weeks.

Regards to Ruth!

2 x 2000 vintage Calem Magnum.

This is my first magnum port, from a large supermarket chain at just under $40.
They also advertised the 1985 for $10 more, unfortunately sold out as I got there [dash1.gif]
