NV Caves Santa Marta White

Post by Rune EG »

Caves Santa Marta is a cooperative located in the village Santa Marta, straight north of Regua. Producing both Douro and port wines. Total production abt 13 mill. liters (acc to their web site). This tasting note is not the Lagrima on their web site.

Light yellow-brown colour. Aroma of ginger, some wood and a little bit perfume. Medium to full body. Powerful and sharp taste. Not so much fruit, except hints of apple, and the alcohol is starting to be more noteable than before. This is the fourth bottle tasted over a year, but coming from the same supply from the producer to the importer (imported autumn 2009), and it is now clearly on the way to be “over the hill”. Sugar 102 gr/l. When first tasted it as fresh, it would have got 89-90. Now 87 pt.
