Hi,

I just want to buy some and I was looking fore some cheaper ones. So are they worth buying:

- 2001er LBV Late bottled Vintage Dalva Port Quinta Avida 17,95€
- Quinta de Vargellas Vintage 1984 (they also offer the Taylor's VP 1985) (Auction) ...wasn't '84 a poor vintage??
- Borges & Irmao - Vintage Port 1983 (auction)
- Vintage Port "Fonseca Guimaraens" 1996 (without IVDP seal?!)
- Dalva Port Colheita 1995 C. da Silva 24,90€

Interessting would be, if they are worth drinking and which price would be a good deal!:)

Two good sources for pricing info:
http://www.wine-searcher.com - Free to search the sponsored listings, and with a pro subscription option. I have the subscription, but it is pretty good even without it.
http://www.globalwinestocks.com - You can do general searches without signing up. If you sign up, for free, you can do more specialized searches.

In both cases you should not take the results as fact. Many listings are valid. A few are not. In the latter case, you can identify some of the bad entries just by visiting the merchant web site, but others won't be so clear. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Paul,

Just my opinion below:

- 2001er LBV Late bottled Vintage Dalva Port Quinta Avida 17,95€ - BUY as Dalva does a nice job.
- Quinta de Vargellas Vintage 1984 (they also offer the Taylor's VP 1985) (Auction) ...wasn't '84 a poor vintage?? Pass on both of these unless you think the price is GREAT. The Taylor is a middling bottling and nothing special. The Vargellas from 1984 is one that I have never had.
- Borges & Irmao - Vintage Port 1983 (auction) - very few bottles hold up well and it was not considered a good bottle even when it was released, so I would suggest to save your money.
- Vintage Port "Fonseca Guimaraens" 1996 (without IVDP seal?!) - Don't sweat the missing seal. This is a nice Port and if the price is right ... go for it.
- Dalva Port Colheita 1995 C. da Silva 24,90€ - At that price it is worth buying one bottle to see if you like young Colheitas. Usually they are best after 20 years of age, but Dalva makes some fine young colheitas too.

I hope this helps. Hopefully others may have had some of the Ports I've not tasted before.
