Decanted 3 hrs. Dark red colour with a light rim. Heavy, deep aroma of flowers, oak, minerals and some berries. Full body. Quite “big” in the beginning of tasting, actually a tiny bit sweet, rough tannins. Then it changed in the mouth to be much smoother, but towards the end it faded away a bit. Tannins were there, but they also faded. Aftertaste short to medium. In view of the high scores of previous vintages this was a bit disappointing. However, an OK Douro red. 85 pts.

Wow. This is a shock. I bought quite a bit of the 2009. I hope it doesn't show like this. Do you think that it is too you and needs time to get it together... Or is it just a weak version of this wine?

I quite liked some of the Vallado Douro reds when we visited them on the 2010 FTLOP Harvest Tour.
As Vallado has a Norwegian importer now, I decided to check the two single grape varities they have, i.e. Touriga Nacional and Sousao. Have not tasted the Sousao yet.

I have learnt during my time in FTLOP that there are more bottle variations in wine than I realized, especially for ports. As for this 2010 Vallado Touriga Nacional it was not a bad wine, but there were no greatness there.

Looking forward to see yr Tasting Note when you have tasted a 2009-bottle.

Wow, color me surprised, too. This may have been the best non-fortified red wine I tasted during my quick swing through the Douro back in May. Here's what I thought of it back then:

-- barrel sample --
-- tasted a couple pours non-blind at the winery --

NOSE: this wine is redolent of all things that make Touriga Nacional so sublime: strong florals; spicy; meaty; tart red/purple fruit aromas lifted by a hint of citrus; just absolutely gorgeous!

BODY: medium-full bodied.

TASTE: spicy; floral; surprisingly accessible (not too oaky or tannic) right now; hint of oak; juicy – incredible acidity; red fruits; full palate. This is due to be bottled in 2 – 3 weeks. This wine manages to avoid the heavy, dark-fruited monolithic oak-monster nature that plagues many other Touriga Nacional bottlings. This wine represents all that can go right with a Touriga Nacional table wine. Can’t wait to get some of this in our cellar.
