TN: 1912 D'Oliveiras Verdelho Vintage Madeira -- (Reserva)

Quite dark, mahogany with greenish rim.
Lovely, intense aromas of butter toffee, dried fruit, and dried flowers.
Very rich, weighty on the palate for verdelho but correct sweetness. Lots of depth and very long. High acidity, but not too much volatile acidity. Superb balance. This is just lovely and definitely one of my top 5 wines of the year so far.

Eric,
I have had this several times and still own two more bottles. Great juice. I have put one aside to make sure to open it in 2012, to hold a party with friends (only six years away) to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. No, I am not joking.

I've a few more also and was also thinking of opening them in 2012, it's century anniversary; but I forgot about the Titanic!

I have only had the Barbeito Bual Madeira from this year. Has anyone had both for a comparison??
I am thinking of opening one in 2012 for the Titanic annivesary as well as the 100th of Arizona statehood.

I've had both side by side several times and they are quite dissimilar.....but of course Verdelho and Boal are different beasts.....but it's very educational as well as satisfying in savoring and distinguishing more or less sweetness,acid,viscosity,depth and finish.
