Le sigh.
Capitalizing on the 50-yr anniversary, I guess. But for me that's just too expensive. At that price I might buy one, but I'll have to think about it. At half that price I'd have bought a dozen without even blinking.

Apparently it's from their newly acquired Wiese and Krohn stock:

So is this a buy on the colheita pricing matrix or not?

Er, given that it is TFP, what else could it have possibly been?

Where shall we begin? Casa do Douro, Their own stocks, bought from someone else, etc. :)
But the reason....A UK retailer put out an email saying it was from Taylor's original stock back from then. Obviously confirmed now, not the case.

Born in 1968, I can say that those are easily found in the $100-$140 range. The 1964 white colheita can be found for $120 in the US, less in the UK. The reds are more in the $180 realm. This seems a little more markup than I'm willing to pay. Then again, I stocked up on colheitas, including several from the 1960s, in a FTLOP buy last year, so others might be more willing to pay this premium.

I don't think the price is outrageous; premium certainly. I assume these were just bottled? It's not so easy for most to get recently bottled Colheita that old. What's a good provenance '63 VP sell for with the Taylor name on it?

Here is some info on this Port...
Background Information
Taylor Fladgate holds one of the most extensive reserves of very old cask aged Port of any producer. They include a collection of rare Single Harvest Ports. These are Ports from a single year which age to full maturity in seasoned oak casks and display the year of harvest on the label.
Taylor Fladgate has decided to make a limited release, each year, of a Single Harvest Port made 50 years previously.
The first in the series is the 1964 Single Harvest of exceptional character.
Taylor Fladgate Managing Director, Adrian Bridge, commented: “A 50th birthday or anniversary is a landmark occasion. Taylor Fladgate Single Harvest Ports offer a unique opportunity to celebrate with an extraordinary 50 year old wine in perfect condition.”
The Taylor Fladgate Single Harvest Port is presented in the classic frosted bottle associated with Taylor Fladgates celebrated range of Aged Tawny Ports and will be presented in a high quality wooden box. Quantities are limited so requests for allocations should be made as soon as possible.
Press Comments
Sarah Ahmed, Wine Detective, December 2013
Sneak preview of the 1st in a series of 50 Year Old Ports from Taylor Fladgate. The 1964 showed tremendous poise and persistence.
Richard Mayson, December 2013 – 18.5/20
Amber-tawny in colour with an olive green rim; lovely, clear, slightly lifted caramelised aromas with a touch of butterscotch; soft and suave with rich, spicy flavours, full and round, quite sweet in style which just stops short of cloying on the finish. Fresh, delicate length. Beautiful balance and a remarkable wine at 50 years old.
Jancis Robinson, December 2013 – 17 Points
This is the first of Taylor’s cunning plan to release a series of 50 year old Single Harvest wood aged ports, thanks to their recent acquisition of Wiese & Krohn, the family shipper that specialised in such wines. What a treasure trove they must have. Pale greenish tawny, this is a much sweeter, simpler and more obviously alcoholic wine than the Calem 1961 tasted alongside. Strong rancio notes and a bit harsh.
Serving Suggestions
It is an excellent accompaniment to many deserts. It combines well with flavors of figs, almonds and caramel. It is an excellent complement for a crème brulée or a plate of wild strawberries. It may also be appreciated on its own, at the end of the meal, with walnuts or dried fruit, and can be served cool in the summer.
1964 SINGLE HARVEST
Tasting Note:
During its five decades of ageing in oak casks, this wine has taken on an attractive pale mahogany colour with olive amber highlights. On the nose the wine displays fine oaky aromas and complex spicy, nutty, cigar box notes against a warm mellow background of butterscotch and molasses. The smooth velvety palate is lifted by a crisp acidity which gives the wine an attractive freshness in spite of its age. The finish is immensely long with rich, spicy, black pepper flavours lingering on the palate.

I opened that bottle with my wife, my father and my step-father.
On the nose it was rich and concentrated on wood, nuts, maple sugar... but there was an impression of cooked and strong alcool that was not really funny. But it was good. In mouth it was like nose. Not too deep. It was good but i don't had the "wow" factor. Once i decided to swallowed i had a big Wow! It was really deep, rich and charming. The finale was really really long and pleasant. The retro olfaction was really long and pleasant too.
Finally i had what i was expected.. not more.
I was asking if the Taylor Fladgate 40 years old tanwy would be better side by side (i already drink once and i think it was better).
And i Wonder if the négatives aspects of the port is because of the year (1964 seems not too good).
Anyway beside of the port we had a great night.

If one can still find Krohn labeled Colheitas, they will be much more wallet friendly.
