I'm looking for a really good, detailed map of the Douro with all the quintas marked on it. Can anyone advise me where to find one?

Are you looking for a map, pure and simple (ie a single large sheet of paper folded into a nice, neat package) or would you also consider a book with a detailed map in it?

Also, what sort of detail on the map are you looking for? Ordnance Survey standard details or something more diagrammatic?

Ideally, and detailed (but not as detailed as an Ordinance Survay) map which I can fold up for the next time I go to the Douro. I've got one for Scotland, which contains all whisky distilleries and places of interest, and I was wondering if there was one for the Douro.

As far as I know, there isn't one. There are army maps that are very detailed, but most of them are something like 10 years old and outdated. Also not all quintas are on them. The Symingtons made a beautiful map of the area, but next to the quintas that the Symingtons own or who supply them, only a couple of the most important quintas are mentioned. The IVDP and/or tourism boards have still to come up with a decent touristic map.

The best I know of is the one made my Hugh Johnson in is Atlas of the world of wine 5th edition.

That was what I was thinking actually! I could just photocopy it and use the copy when I go!

Have a look at the map that Isaac worked on. It is ofered on the homepage of the website. It is VERY detailed and shows the topography as well.

Roy, although it looks like a very interesting project, $950.00 does seem to be a bit expensive for a map you'd want to take along on a trip to the douro. A phtocopy from Hugh Johnson's wine atlas is probably a brighter idea.
