Questions regarding 1997 Delaforce Quinta da Corte and WS

Garagiste emailed about Mags of this for $48.73 today. Anyone tried it and have feeling on a maturity window?

Second Garagiste posted the WineSpectator review with a best after date of 2007. This seems quite young to me especially when Tanzer says it needs time. I also notice that WS best after dates are often very early for Ports (Yes a generalization) What are your thoughts regarding this?

I own one bottle of it and have never tasted it and passed on buying any. A couple of hours ago, I spoke to one of the guys going on the 1st Port trip with us and he said that it was "no way" a 95 pt. wine that the WS had given it. He had been unimpressed with the wine in general and I did not get the sense that he was going to buy any ... even at that price.

When you see a MAG of recent VP for a price under $50 ... there is a good reason, and it ain't because it is poorly stored.

Well gents, I wouldn't be so quick to entirely dismiss this one.....perhaps not 95 pts, but still a good port and at that price for a magnum, a no-brainer. Knock off 5 points and it's still a terrific deal.

It's way too late. I emailed right after the email came out and did not get any.

At that price how can you go wrong? Too bad for me.

Not that I am hung up on points, but Tanzer gave it an 87+ which makes the price still pretty good. I will crack one in a few years and report back if this Hersh character knows anything about Port. Rummor has it that he cut his teeth on California Port and Burgundy out of gallon jugs.

I cut my teeth on Molson Canadians, Molson Brodeur (sp?), Labatt's Blue and Moosehead. Oh yeah, wine ...

My first wine as a teen was a fortified wine, Wild Irish Rose. Yep! Then it was onto Strawberry Hill by Boone's Farm and believe it or not, some German Riesling (as I worked in a wine shop and German Riesling and Liebfraumilch, were all the rage). I did try some real Burgundy there as the store owner was a huge fan. I was 18-almost 20 when I worked there and it was legal to drink at 18 back then 1975-1977).

Yep Jason (G), sometimes moving at the speed of light isn't fast enough to cut the muster on those Garagiste offerings.....I quite literally responded in an instant and got the three I asked for. Now for the 10 year and see.....

Molson Brodeur (or whatever the spelling).....that is a flashback Roy!

Jason (D) - good question about the aging window, but I tend to like my port VERY well aged, so I think I'm in for a long, long wait on this one. As for the Tanzer score, notice the ? after the 87+ - that usually indicates a conservative numerical assessment.
