This last May I attended Riberexpo 2005 - the annual showcase for Ribera del Duero Wines - in the village of Peñafiel, Spain. It's a quite good event and hopefully next year I will be able to make it again. A visit to Peñafiel's castle is a must - a Wine Museum is located in its premises. The Riberexpo's organizers claim it to be the second largest wine event being held in Spain right after "Alimentaria" in Barcelona.

Anyway, while in Peñafiel I tasted many interesting Ribera's and, of course, decided to buy a few of them. One curiosity I found is that in Ribeira del Duero, Tempranillo is known as Tinta del Paíz !!! - And, also in Spain but I do not know where, they even call it Tinto Fino instead !!!

So, it seems that this very same grape is called by different names depending on its geography:

» Tinta Roriz ........... [Douro Valley, Portugal].
» Aragonêz ............. [Alentejo, Portugal].
» Tinta del Paíz ...... [Ribera del Duero, Spain].
» Tinto Fino ............ [somewhere, Spain].
» Tempranillo ......... [elsewhere, Spain].

In conclusion: one grape = five names !!
I wonder whether there's still more names out there for this one Varietal alone :!: :?:
