1963 Vintage Port Messias Vinhos

Post by savanatbunnie »

I live in France, and have found in the cellar, a bottle of 1963 Port as above. Can anyone tell me if this is of any value?

Feel a bit of a fraud on this forum, as I am not a port drinker, unless it is with brandy

Brenda,

I can't find any current prices for this bottle.

1963 was a very good year for port but this is not one of the best port producers. I have 1 tasting note for this port in a book I have - in 1990 it was described by James Suckling as "over the hill". It will still be drinkable but is now well past it's best.

In terms of value I would think it would be worth no more than 70-80 Euro.

Please don't drink it with brandy  it has waited 40 years to be opened so please find someone who enjoys port and open it together after a nice meal on a cold winter evening

Thank you Derek, might well do that. The label is very tatty, so maybe it will go down well with some cheese, like you say after a nice meal with friends.
