For The Love Of Port

Not in the category of Nico's 70 Nacional but---nice nose, a real alcohol note, hint of clove and nutmeg, perfect color, not a cloud in its sky!
Now a hint of Malabar black peppercorns.
Great mouth feel. Lots of rich cooked dark huckleberry fruit. Reminds me of the huckleberry pies of Eureka Springs ,Arkansas, a vacation spot of my childhood. A little mint on the back end. Nice finish.

For those of you unfamiliar, a huckleberry is similar to a blueberry but much more red purple in color. They are very small with intense berry flavors, just like this port.

Thanks for the note, the 94 Warre LBV is one of my favorites. I have a 6 pack in the cellar, and just popped the 95 Warres for later on this evening.

Let me know what you think of the Warre LBV 1995. I am thinking of grabbing a couple this weekend when I hit the wine store.

Andy, IMO the 95 Warre is not nearly as good as the 94. Where the 94 is more smooth and has nice complexity, the 95 is just to hot. Now maybe it will calm down with air and time, so I'll try more of it tomorrow and let you know.

I've had the 92 and have some 94 hanging about. The 92 was excellent.

Is the Warres LBV a trditional LBV or is it filtered? If unfiltered, does anyone have eny experience bottle-aging these?

It's unfiltered and it ages very nicely. I have had the 1992 and it was certainly in the not-dead-yet categroy. Plenty of life left but it may not necessarily improve. I wouldn't have it down as a twenty-year Port but you never know.

Steve, Thanks, let me know how day 2 goes.

Day 2.....Not much improvement, the alcohol still overpowers the fruit. Now I've had other 95 Warres better than this, but none have been as good as the 94.

BTW, I had a 79 Warres LBV that was stunning. I truely believe that the unfiltered LBV's age beautifully.

I guess I'll put that one on the bottom of the shopping list this weekend...thanks again Steve.
