Had this with some friends after the 2000 Fonseca vintage port and some very nice cheese (Mont d'Or, Epoisses, Morbier)
One hour decant. The cork was totaly saturated. Slightly brick/orange colour, spirity nose. Very mature port with some sharp alcohol aside. Some fruit (orangezestes), but also some nuts. Medium bodied and medium aftertaste. It was nice, but didn't stand up to the Fonseca. Maybe we should have drank this before the Fonseca and extend the decant?

I opened a bottle of this in 2010 and had a similar, though a bit more pleasant, experience to yours.

I haven't had much luck with the couple of bottles of this that I've opened...

Spirit and orange are common traits of Croft. Haven't had '77 in several years, but it's not one of the best if memory serves me right. '77 was probably last decent vintage till '91
