It can be Douro or anywhere else in Portugal, up to you!

Two Portuguese red wines reached 96 pts in my book, both of them from Douro and both of them from 2007:

2007 Casa Ferreirinha Reserva Especial
2007 Quinta do Crasto Maria Teresa

One of the top table wines i tasted this year was João Clara Negramole 2013 red. Since the Algarve wines don't get mentioned that often, this is my choice:

Don't leave out your vote for white wine too!

I had forgotten that one. Jeez, I wish I had a six pack of that in the cellar. Absolutely amazing!

But so were some of the various wines from Cave S. Joao; and I bought a bunch of magnums which were consumed in PT last summer. So great. But I think there are a couple with higher scores. I will look through my tasting notebooks from this past year and then come back to put in my winners; white & red.

For white, I'm going with that 1991 Pato.

Espumante: Vertice Espumante Pinot Noir

White Wine: 1991 Luis Pato Branco Vinhas Velhas - an extraordinary and youthful white wine from Bical, Maria Gomes and Cerceal grapes.

Red Wine: This year, I had many beautiful reds along the way. But in October, I had a 2008 Barca Velha, (that I liked even more than the 2004) and nothing topped it in any other experience in 2017, for red wines.
